GiftIdeasForDay ("we", "us") operates giftideasforday.com. For most visitors this site still collects as little as a website can — no tracking without consent, no data sales, ever. If you create a free account for our gift reminders, we store exactly what that feature needs and nothing more. Here's the complete picture.

If you just browse (no account)

Nothing has changed: we store no personal data about you. The only things that can touch your browser are the consent cookie and — only if you say yes — Google Analytics. Both are described below.

Guide feedback and gift suggestions

Guides have an anonymous "was this helpful?" button and a suggestion box. A helpful-vote stores only the page and the vote — no account, no IP address, nothing that identifies you. A gift suggestion stores the text you type (plus a name only if you choose to give one) and is emailed to us; suggestions are never published. Please don't include personal details in the suggestion text — if you do, email us and we'll delete the submission.

If you create an account

To sign you in we store your email address. If you use "Sign in with Google", Google tells us your email address and basic profile (name and avatar); we store the email address and nothing else from that. We never see or store a password — sign-in links (sometimes called "magic links") arrive by email (they work once and expire after 15 minutes), and session tokens are stored hashed.

People and dates you add

The whole point of an account is reminders: you add people ("Mom", "my partner") and their occasions (a birthday, an anniversary), and we email you before each one. About that data:

If someone asks you for your wishes

Account holders can ask a person they shop for to share their own wishes: we create a private link, and the account holder passes it on themselves — we never ask for your email address, and you don't need an account. If you open such a link, we store exactly what you type on that page: your wishes (a title, an optional product link, optional details) and, if you add one, a short "about you" note. What you enter becomes part of the gift list of the person who sent you the link, so they — and anyone they share that list with — can see it. The link stops working shortly after the occasion (or after about 90 days if it has no date), and the person who sent it can withdraw it at any time. While it works, you can edit or remove your entries yourself; your "about you" note is deleted automatically no later than six months after the occasion, and your wish entries stay on the sender's list until they delete them or their account. Emails we send

Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe link — no login, no "are you sure". Delivery runs through Resend (EU region), which processes your email address on our behalf under its own GDPR commitments. We don't use tracking pixels to watch whether you open our emails.

Where your data lives

Account data is stored in a PostgreSQL database on Hetzner servers in the European Union. It stays there while your account exists and disappears when you delete it (see below).

Analytics (only with your consent)

If — and only if — you accept analytics cookies in our consent banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people find useful (pages visited, approximate location by country/city, device type). This data is aggregated; we can't identify you from it, and it is never connected to your account. If you decline, Google Analytics never loads. Google's own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy. Analytics data is retained by Google for a maximum of 14 months.

Error monitoring on gift-list pages

On the gift-list pages only — your account area, a shared list you open with a link, a Secret Santa reveal link, and a wish page you open from an invitation link — we use Sentry to report technical errors so we can fix them. It runs on those pages regardless of your analytics choice, because it exists to keep the feature working rather than to measure you: it sets no cookies, records no browsing history, and is never used for advertising or analytics. We have switched off the collection of IP addresses, and the share, manage, reveal and invitation tokens in those page addresses are stripped out before any report leaves your browser, so a report can never be used to reach someone's list or reservation. Sentry stores this data on servers in the European Union. Our guide and landing pages do not load it at all.

Affiliate links

Product links on this site go to Amazon and include our affiliate tag. When you click one, Amazon sets its own cookies on its own domain to attribute the purchase; that happens under Amazon's privacy policy, not ours. We never see what you buy — only anonymous, aggregated commission reports. Your account data is never shared with Amazon, and nothing about your account travels with an affiliate click.

Deleting your account, and your other rights

There's a delete button in your account settings. It works immediately and completely: your account, people, occasions, saved gifts, sessions, and reminder history are hard-deleted — not archived, not "deactivated". Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws you also have the right to a copy of your data and to correct it — email us at [email protected] and we'll sort it out. For analytics (Google) and purchases (Amazon), those companies are the right door to knock on, but we're happy to help.

What we will never do

We don't sell personal data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't email you about things you didn't ask for. If a future feature would change any sentence on this page, the page changes first and the date above moves.
